The IRS announced on March 17th that the filing deadline for tax returns has been postponed to May 17. The first quarter’s estimated tax payments, however, have not been postponed! They are still due no later than April 15.
Michigan has not issued a statement on whether they will follow the IRS’ lead by also postponing their filing deadline. It took some time last year after the IRS’ postponement announcement for MI to jump on board. It is anticipated that, because the state ‘piggybacks’ on the IRS’s efiling system, the Michigan deadline will also be moved.
